Matthijs Nelemans

Matthijs Nelemans founded Neemley (previously Finnel) in 2015 on the conviction that complex enforcement matters require more than legal expertise alone. Trained in both law and economics, he brings a dual lens to every matter: the legal framework and the economic reality underneath it. Combined with his expertise in emerging technologies, this has produced criminal cases settled, administrative matters won and civil disputes resolved through arguments that others had not seen.

As Professor of Financial Law Enforcement at Tilburg Law School, Matthijs shapes the next generation of thinking about regulation and enforcement. The academic work and the practice share the same drive: the belief that better understanding leads to better outcomes, whether in a courtroom, a classroom or a boardroom.

Before founding Neemley, Matthijs practised law at De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek in Amsterdam. He has been a visiting researcher at Harvard Law School and Columbia Law School.

He appears in administrative, criminal and civil proceedings, advises boards under regulatory scrutiny, conducts internal investigations and acts as an expert witness. He is instructed directly as well as by law firms and government agencies, in the Netherlands and abroad.
